Bass Pro Shop in Green Bay

Some of you have probably heard about the Bass Pro Shop that was nearly put up in Green Bay. The land that was to be developed was financed by local business men and the project was ready to take off. It was looking great for the city, jobs were going to be made and many of the laid off construction workers were finally going to get to work. There was a problem however. The land that was to be developed was wetland. As soon as Bass Pro Shop found out about the wetland issue the immediately decided against building in Green Bay (1). Governor Walker pushed the development and to fill the wetland to get Bass Pro Shops in Green Bay. Mitigation area was planned to deal with the wetland issuer (2).

So this development was going to increase employment and restore wetlands in other areas. That sounds very good to must people, but that wetland was the home to many species including the leopard frog and the wetland is located near the main highway. The wetland is filter to the run off from the highway, cleaning and preventing any flooding.

Is it ethical to fill the wetland to create jobs or is it unethical to fill the wetland and destroy it natural habitat? I feel that Bass Pro Shops did the right thing by backing out of the development. Wetlands are the earths natural water purifier. Wetlands are  the product of 100 of years of natural development.

Wood Project

Our group is working on the wood project. Are issue is using a phenol based wood treatment.  We have been in contact with the inventor of this phenol based treatment, Joe Starks. We want to decide if this new treatment is actually better than what there is on the market today. Is the price going to be to expensive so people will not use it, what the shelf life of the product might be, and if the treatment is safe.

We have split up the work within the group and everyone knows their role. I am going to get in contact with Menards to ask a few questions on their products trying to finds some prices, shelf-life, and how much they sell.

Doctor Accepting Tickets

In the situation given that a physician is accepting Wild tickets from a pharmeceutical rep it isn't really said if the physician is using the reps drugs. To me I do not see this as unethical, being a sales rep you are not just selling a product but you are also selling yourself. Give the physician these tickets to me seems like there is really no huge difference between this deal and one you would see in a super market. The owner of the market may be giving away prizes to get the customers in the store. Just because the physician accepting Wild tickets is on a larger scale the rep and market owner have the same intentions.

Physician are seeing pharmeceutical reps on regular bases, all selling in some standpoint the same drug. The rep has to do something to make themselves stand out above the rest of the reps the physician is seeing.

Diversity

To me diversity is putting more variety into a subject. That subject may be your backyard, friends, workplace, etc.  By having diversity in your life it is going to able you to be more open to new adventures. I come from a real small town where there is little to no diversity. Everyone had the same interests and mostly the same hobbies, most days were the same as the day before and the next. With this limited diversity it was strange for me to try new things because it was out of the norm and my comfort level. For an example, my girlfriend comes from a large town filled with diversity. The first time I went to here hometown I felt akward because it was so different. Even when it came to chosing a place to eat there was such a variety of choices I chose the place that I was familiar with.
I know diverisity is important and a huge role in the work force today. I do want to start my own business some day and the more diverse my costumers are is going to make an impact on how diverse in need my employees to be. Like stated in class the smartest and most qualified applicant is not always the right choice for the position.

MY PDP

Mission: My mission is to have a happy, rewarding life, with a great family and a successful career.

Goals:
1. Graduate from UW-Stout
2. Begin my GIS career with Merjent Inc. or MI-Tech.
3. Advance in the company to a point were I can settle down and begin my family
4. Become financially set and start my own GIS company specializing in wildlife and farmland.
5. Make enough money so that my children will not have the burden of paying for college.
6. Retire, but remain doing freelance GIS, moving out west to the mountains.

Strategy:
With this being my last semester I will be graduating in December, 2011. At the moment I have no job line up. I will take this time to work for Century Fence Company, where I have worked the past couple summers. By doing this I will remain financially stable while I continue to search for a career in my field. Through a tremendous amount of networking, labor work, time, and training, I will get my chance to become a GIS specialist for Merjent Inc. I am already very close with the Vice President of the company and I have had interviews with him and feel extremely confident. Being very great company in the Midwest right now and quickly spreading throughout the US possibilities for me to advance are spectacular. Through hard work and dedication to the company I will be given that opportunity and will be able to select my location and place roots to start my family.

With a growing company on my side and the years of hard work will pay off extremely when I can start my own adventure. With all my training, experience, and recognition, I will be able to start my own GIS company to work with my first passion the outdoors. Working with farmers, sportsmen, and the general outdoor enthusiasts, I want to create maps that illustrates the part of the outdoors that most people don't see.

Something that is very important to me because it was such an important thing in my life is to be able to put my kids through college just as my father did. By instilling the dedication of hard work into me and my brothers we were able to work hard and never had the burden of financial issues. By teaching my kids these lessons they will also have that freedom from the financial struggle through college.

With a Happy Life in progress and many years of hard work I will retire. Move to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This is area that I have hunted for years and will continue my life there. By remaining to do GIS work for ranchers, mapping fence lines, feed lots, and herding areas, I will prevent boredom and driving my wife crazy.

Values:
Through this PDP these values show there importance to me and my life ahead.
1. Family
2. Friends
3. Happiness
4. Environment/Outdoors
5. Financial stability

CO2 presentation

https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id=0ASHoGSKZDyhKZGhxNnQ3NXZfMzlkeDU5NjRnZw&hl=en_US

The criteria chosen in class where very broad I believe, allowing there to be no clear understanding. I'm not sure what criteria would have been better but we should have made the two criteria established a little bit more concrete.

After the penny presentation disaster I would say these presentation when much better. However, just like the penny presentations there was a lot of repeat information. More calabiration between the groups would have been a great idea so that all the facts and criteria were touched upon not just the stand out ones that everyone commented on.

A huge part of our group was Don, being a very well spoken and a confident speaker abled him to really change some thoughts on the paper.  Organization wise we were on top of it. Using "gmail", something new to me we were able to work on the presentation as a group even when we weren't able to meet as a group.

As the days went on and the more I looked at the paper there were times when I was against the paper. But for some reason after listening to the presentations I still voted for the "yes" groups to win. I thought I was voting that way just because I was yes, but every "no" group argued the same thing and that was the tables and figures.

I'm not sure what is meant by the question if the class made the right decision on the debate.  The question almost sounds like we were debating the topic the of CO2 and global warming, but that was not the debate. Though it was very hard not jump ship and bring that topic up while debating if the paper was legitment.

With othere countries growing and becoming more advanced with industry, it will soon be that the U.S will have little affect on global warming compared to other parts of the world.

What do as individauls makes the difference in global warming. It us the that decide how much is enough. We control how much CO2 is released and we decide if we really are ready to make the difference to prevent any more global warming influences.
